X-Men undefeated heading into break
The CIS ranked #3 X-Men continue to be a force to be reckoned with atop the AUS conference as they kept their unbeaten streak alive at six games with a 100-80 win over UPEI in Charlottetown Saturday night.
\r\nThe game started out close and was tied at 38 a piece at half-time as the X-Men got out to a bit of a slow start. They then outscored the Panthers 31-24 in the third quarter put the game away in the fourth quarter as they tallied 31 points to the Panthers 18.
\r\nThe X-Men were led by Tyler Richards who scored a game-high 26 points and also had 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Four more X-Men were in double scoring figures including T-Bear Upshaw with 20 points (1 rebound, 3 assists and 1 steal).
\r\nJeremy Dunn and Will Silver played very solid games for the X-Men off the bench. Dunn scored 16 points and had a couple rebounds while Silver scored 15 and had 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Terrance Taylor scored 14 points for the blue and white. Dwayne Johnson and Alberto Rodriguez each hauled in 9 rebounds each.
\r\nAndrew Black led the Panthers with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Nick Toews scored 12 points.
\r\nThe X-Men remain in sole possession of first place atop the AUS conference with a 6-0 record and 18 points. Leading into the holiday break, Cape Breton is in second place (12 points) following by Dalhousie (10), Saint Mary’s (8) and Acadia (8) and Memorial (6). UPEI (4) and UNB (0) wrap up the bottom of the standings.
\r\nStFX will travel to Dalhousie University for the Rod Shoveller Invitational tournament form Jan. 2-4 before resuming league play with a game at Saint Mary’s on Jan. 8.
