2015 AUS fall sports schedules released

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport released the 2015 fall sports schedules today, including women’s rugby, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country. Hosts for the fall Subway AUS championships were also confirmed.

In women’s rugby, last year’s AUS finalists, the StFX X-Women and Acadia Axewomen will each open the season at home. The defending CIS champion X-Women will host the Saint Mary’s Huskies for their home opener Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. while the Axewomen will host the UPEI Panthers later that weekend, Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Panthers and the Huskies will play their own home openers the following weekend when UPEI hosts StFX and Saint Mary’s hosts Acadia. Both games are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. The rival X-Women and Axewomen will face off in Week 3 in a rematch of last season’s championship game Sunday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. in Antigonish, N.S.

The 2015 Subway AUS women’s rugby championship will return to a three-team playoff format, with the team that finished third in the regular season standings visiting the second-place team in Week 7. The winner of that matchup will visit the first-place team the following weekend in the championship final game. The AUS champion will then advance to the 2015 CIS women’s rugby championship being hosted Nov. 5 to 8 by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.  

All 10 AUS men’s and women’s soccer teams will see action on opening weekend Sept. 11-13. The defending champion Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s team will host the UPEI Panthers in their home and season opener Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.

The two-time reigning men’s soccer champion UNB Varsity Reds will open their season with two away games in Week 1, visiting the Cape Breton Capers Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3:15 p.m. and the StFX X-Men Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3:15 p.m. Their home opener will take place the following weekend when they host the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday, Sept. 19, also at 3:15 p.m.

This season’s Subway AUS men’s and women’s soccer championships will be hosted Nov. 6-8 by Acadia University and Université de Moncton, respectively. York University in Toronto will host the CIS men’s soccer championship the following weekend, Nov. 12-15, while the CIS women’s soccer championship will be hosted by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will open up their season with an invitational meet Saturday, Sept. 12, co-hosted by Saint Mary’s and Dalhousie in Halifax, N.S. StFX will play host to the second meet Sept. 26, while Université de Moncton will host the third invitational meet Saturday, Oct. 17. St. Thomas will play host this season to the 2015 Subway AUS cross country championship Oct. 31 in Fredericton, N.B. Guelph University will host the 2015 CIS cross country championships Saturday, Nov. 14.
