X-Women cross country runner Melissa Hardy was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week co-winner for the week ending Oct. 28, 2013. Melissa, a fifth year Dietetic Intern student from Deer Lake, won the AUS championship 6km race this past Saturday in Moncton. She ran the race in a time of 22:52.45, helping her X-Women teammates to a silver medal showing. Melissa was named AUS female cross country athlete of the year for her performance and was also honored as the AUS community service award winner. She will represent StFX at the CIS national championship in London, Ont. on Nov. 9th.
X-Women rugby lock Emma Taylor was named the StFX Female Athlete
of the Week co-winner for the week ending Oct. 28, 2013. Emma, a
fourth year Business student from Scotsburn, NS, helped lead the
X-Women to a thrilling 19-12 overtime victory over Acadia in the
AUS championship game Sunday to claim the conference title, and a
berth in the CIS championship at Laval next weekend. Emma scored
the game winning try late in the second overtime period to give the
X-Women the edge. She was named the AUS tournament MVP and also
received AUS all-star status earlier in the week.
X-Men soccer defender Max Maund was named the StFX Male Athlete of
the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2013. Max, a fifth year Human
Nutrition student from Courtenay, BC was named player of the game
in the X-Men’s 4-0 win over Memorial on Sunday. He scored the
first goal of the game in the 15th minute. Max also put forth a
strong defensive performance in the X-Men’s 0-0 draw with
Cape Breton on Friday. The team captain will guide the X-Men into
AUS playoffs at Saint Mary’s this weekend.
