Fogarty, Martin and Dyton named football athletes of the week after Loney Bowl win
X-Men Football running back Caleb Fogarty, defensive back Brandyn Martin and linebacker Dyton Blackett were named the Pita Pit athletes of the week for the week ending November 13, 2023.
Pita Pit X-Men Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
X-Men running back Caleb Fogarty was named the STFX Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 12, 2023. Caleb, a 4th year Business student (3rd year eligibility) from Moncton, NB was the recipient of the Don Loney Trophy as championship MVP as the X-Men won their third consecutive AUS championship title Saturday with a 34-23 win over Bishop's. Caleb had a 7-yard touchdown run at the end of the first quarter to give X a 17-3 lead at that point in the game. He had 21 rushes for 107 yards, averaging 5.1 yards/rush in earning the player of game honours.
Pita Pit X-Men Football Defensive Athlete of the Week
X-Men defensive back Brandyn Martin was named the STFX Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 12, 2023. Brandyn, a 2nd year Education student (4th year eligibility) from Melfort, SK led all tacklers Saturday in the X-Men's 34-23 Loney Bowl championship victory over Bishop's. Brandyn had 8.5 tackles, including 8 solo tackles, and had a key sack for a loss of 11 yards. An X-Men co-captain and 2023 AUS all-star, he had 32.0 tackles in AUS regular season play.
Pita Pit X-Men Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
X-Men linebacker Dyton Blackett was named the STFX Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 12, 2023. Dyton, a sixth year Business student (5th year eligibility) from Canning, NS played a dominant special teams game for the X-Men in a physical game that saw them defeat Bishop's 32-23 to win the AUS Loney Bowl championship. Dyton was outstanding on kick-off and punt coverage, and in his game decision-making in regards to punt protection calls. An X-Men co-captain and the 'quarterback' of the punt team, he has been the leader on X-Men special teams all season. Dyton had 6.5 tackles in the game, including 5 solo tackles and one break-up. On the defensive side of the ball he had 36.5 tackles this season.
