Jordan Socholotiuk named AUS offensive player of the week

Running back Jordan Socholotiuk of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 9, 2016.

A third-year human kinetics student from Fort McMurray, Alta., Socholotiuk scored two touchdowns in StFX's 33-29 win over Acadia Saturday in Wolfville, N.S. He had a 71-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and his six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter helped spark a second-half comeback victory for the X-Men.

Socholotiuk had 27 carried for 223 total yards in the game, along with one reception for six yards. He currently leads the AUS in rushing, averaging 132.1 yards per game with 925 total yards on 148 rushes.

With one regular season game remaining, he is poised to break 1,000 yards rushing on the season and become the first AUS player to do so since 2007.

Defensive back Nate Rostek of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport football defensive player of the week.

A third-year sociology student from Stillwater Lake, N.S., Rostek had six tackles (five solo and two assisted) as well as a pass break up in the Mounties' 39-9 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Sackville, N.B. Saturday.

With the win, the Mounties clinched a spot in the 2016 AUS football playoffs—their fourth postseason appearance in as many years.


Special Teams Player of the Week

Position: Kicker
Hometown: Grimsby, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Third
Academic program: BA Environmental Studies
Height and weight: 5'9", 180lbs

Kicker Ryan Lambert of the Mount Allison Mounties has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.

A fourth-year environmental studies student in his third year of eligibility from Grimsby, Ont., Lambert was successful on all three field goal attempts and all four of his point-after attempts in Mount Allison's 39-9 win over Saint Mary's Saturday.

His stats on special teams also included a 36.3-yard punting average on 11 punts, with two downed inside the 20-yard line, as well as a 59.1-yard average on 11 kickoffs.
