Grant and Okafor receive AUS football athlete of the week honors

Receiver Kaion Grant of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 16, 2016.

A second-year human kinetics student from Toronto, Grant scored two touchdowns and was named Subway Player of the Game in the X-Men's 45-6 win over Saint Mary's Saturday in Halifax.

He had 80 and 65-yard touchdown catches in the second quarter and five receptions on the afternoon for 230 total yards. The performance earned him sixth place in the AUS all-time record books for most receiving yards in a single game.

Grant also had two kickoff returns (44 yards) and four punt returns (35 yards). He currently leads the AUS conference in receiving, averaging 122.2 yards per game, 23.5 yards per reception and 611 total yards. He is first in AUS all-purpose yards with 1,090 and 218.0 yards per game.

Defensive lineman Kay Okafor of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport football defensive player of the week.

A fourth-year business student from Enugu, Nigeria, Okafor had four sacks in StFX's 45-6 win over Saint Mary's Saturday for a total loss of 38 yards, along with six solo tackles.

He now sits tied for third in the AUS all-time record book for sacks in a single game.

Academic program: BA Environmental Studies
Height and weight: 5'9", 180lbs

Kicker Ryan Lambert of the Mount Allison Mounties has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.

A fourth-year environmental studies student in his third year of eligibility from Grimsby, Ont., Lambert was successful on two of three field goal attempts and his lone point-after attempt in Mount Allison's last-minute 15-13 victory over Acadia Saturday.

Lambert kicked the game-winning 40-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
