About Clubs

The Competitive Sports Club program at StFX University is designed to provide additional opportunities for individuals interested in a specific sport to develop or improve their skills, to participate recreationally or competitively in leagues and competitions external to StFX, and establish social contacts.  Sport clubs are voluntary, non-profit, student led organizations.  Members assume the leadership and financial responsibilities of club activities, but are required to adhere to Department of Athletics & Recreation and University guidelines and policies.

Registered Competitive Sport Clubs are managed by StFX students and community members.  The Competitive Sports Clubs are not funded by the Department of Athletics & Recreation at StFX University.  The programs are a service to members and are registered with the Department of Athletics & Recreation in order that they might schedule Department facilities, apply for use of certain services, and receive basic support for on campus sport club activities. The club liaison contact is Gerry Balcom.

DUE TO COVID-19:  Club sport competition has been suspended until January, 2021. StFX club sport teams are nor permitted to compete in any formal games/competition (regular season, playoff or non-conference). A decision on whether StFX competitive club sports will resume in January, 2021 shall be made in October, 2020.

At StFX University, club teams may begin formalized training with student-athletes as of September 28th for all who have received their StFX green bracelet. All individual and team training sessions must meet Nova Scotia Public Health Return to Sport and specific Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) Return to Play requirements. The health and safety of our student-athletes is at the forefront of all our training sessions. Protocols are subject to change based upon evolving NS Public Health and PSO regulations, and will be continually monitored.

All club sports must be approved for formal training by Manager of Recreation & Club Sports Gerry Balcom and adhere to StFX club sports safety protocols.
